Lodheshwar Mahadev Mandir stands in village Mahadeva, Ramnagar tehsil, Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh — on the sacred Ghaghra (once Gandaki) river belt.
Devotees know this as a wish-fulfilling seat of Lord Shiva. The Shivling here is counted among the rarest of the 52 Shivlings associated with the Shakti Peethas across India. Local tradition and scriptures place the shrine deep in sacred history, including references linked with the Mahabharata age.
Lodheshwar Mahadev is also revered as the Kuldevta of the Lodhi Rajputs. Each year, especially on Maha Shivaratri in Phalgun, lakhs of pilgrims arrive with kanwars, calling out “Bam Bhole” as they offer Gangajal to Mahadev.

From dream to darshan
District records tell of Pandit Lodheram Awasthi, a simple Brahmin of this land. Lord Shiva appeared in his dream and guided him to a pit in his field where irrigation water vanished into the earth. Digging there, his implement struck a hard form — blood is said to have oozed from the mark, still visible on the Shivling today.
Unable to unearth the full form, Lodheram built a temple on that spot. The name joined his own — Lodhe — with Ishwar, and the Lord became known as Lodheshwar. He was blessed with four sons; the villages of Mahadeva, Lodhaura, Gobaraha, and Rajnapur still carry those names.
Older lore also speaks of this belt as Varaha / Shukar kshetra, of Pandava mahayagya, and of the sacred well called Pandav-Kup, whose water devotees hold as healing. Nearby, Shiv Abharan Sarovar was developed under the Ramnagar estate for pilgrims.

Local reports note the Shivling appears in three hues through the day — darker at dawn, milk-like by noon, and deep again by evening. The implement mark on the lingam is said to show clearly when milk is offered.

Fly into Lucknow, then continue by taxi or bus toward Barabanki and Ramnagar. The temple sits in Mahadeva village on the Ghaghra belt.

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is the nearest airport. Hire a cab toward Barabanki → Ramnagar → Mahadeva (about 2 hours by road, traffic dependent).

Frequent flights land at Lucknow. From the airport, take a prepaid taxi or app cab straight to Ramnagar tehsil, then local transport to the temple.

Rail is one of the easiest ways for pilgrims. Alight near Ramnagar tehsil, then cover the last few kilometres by auto, jeep, or shared vehicle.
Budhwal Junction
Nearest practical railhead for Ramnagar. About 3 km from Ramnagar tehsil HQ; Mahadeva is ~5 km from Ramnagar. Autos and jeeps are usually available outside the station.

Major district station with better connectivity from Lucknow, Delhi, and eastern UP. From here take a bus or taxi to Ramnagar (~30–35 km), then local transport to Mahadeva.

UPSRTC and private buses connect Lucknow and Barabanki with Ramnagar. The last stretch is short: Ramnagar town is only about 5 km from the temple.
